The nickel content makes it resistant to chloride SCC and the low proportion of carbon makes it resistant to inter - granular corrosion. SS 904L sheets can be subjected to hot cracking in constrained weldment, where the structural stability of this grade collapses at high temperatures, particularly above 400 Degree C.
It is considered especially well - suited to handling sulphuric acid and phosphoric acid, though at high temperatures it may be subject to stress corrosion cracking.
